"Chewing on the Manna of God"

GOOD MORNING!
DEVOTIONAL:
"Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day..." Exodus 16:4
I love the story of the Israelites and the miraculous food from heaven that the Lord faithfully and lovingly provided for them as they wandered in the wilderness for forty years. It was called manna. This edible bread-like substance appeared on the ground every morning and tasted like honey [Psalm 78:24]. God’s people were instructed to gather only what they needed for that day. This reminds me of the time when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, "give us this day our daily bread" [Matthew 6]. The provision of manna from heaven sustained the Israelites during their wilderness wanderings. Without a doubt, manna was a daily miracle. It serves as a vivid picture of Jesus Christ who is "the Bread that came down from heaven" [John 6:41]. Just like the manna strengthened and sustained the Israelites during their wilderness experience, Jesus strengthens and sustains His followers each day. In the midst of our wilderness, He provides manna from heaven - it’s called His Word. "Gather a day’s portion every day." Feed your heart everyday. God means for His Word to meet us, strengthen us, and change us, in the whole of our person. Develop a daily habit of feeding on Him. Trust God to supply what He loves to supply: today’s portion.
In this story, God does give us a glimpse into who He is, and what it means to have Him as our God, and for us to be His people. He is the kind of God who provides for our needs on an everyday basis. He is the God who is with His people every step of the way, to give them, by His own hand, daily provision in the wilderness to get them safely to His Promised Land.
God-reliance is so much better than self-reliance. You can be confident that He will lead and feed you through your wilderness experience. TRUE!
